Golda A. Benke 1918-2012
Golda A. Benke, 93, of Perham, died at Perham Health on Jan. 17. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Perham, beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Carl Noble officiating. A time of gathering for family and friends will take place Friday, Jan. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, as well as one hour prior to the memorial service at the church.
Golda A. Benke, 93, of Perham, died at Perham Health on Jan. 17. Burial will take place in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Dent. A time of gathering for family and friends will take place Friday, Jan. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, as well as one hour prior to the memorial service at the church.
Golda Ann Volkmann was born on Feb. 4, 1918, the daughter of Ernest and Anna (Quiram) Volkmann, at home in Dead Lake Township, rural Dent. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Dora Township, rural Dent. In this same church, on Sept. 9, 1939, Golda was united in marriage with Albert G. Benke with a reception at home. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2009, just prior to Al’s death. Golda was church organist, Sunday School teacher and a member of the LWML and enjoyed being part of the Bible study group. She also baked many wedding cakes and served as Al’s business manager.
Surviving Golda are her children, Giny Anderson-Mulari, Gary (Karen) Benke and Lynnette (Ken) Krekelberg; 11 grandchildren, Mark (Karen) Wendt, Brian Wendt, Lisa (Bob) Jenson, Shelley Kro-shus, LeAnn (Jeff) Cummings, David (Brenda) Anderson, Ken (Lisa) Benke, Jeff (Sara) Benke, Kris-topher (Angie Hershberger) Krekelberg, BJ (Amy) Krekelberg and Casey Krekelberg; 18 great-grandchildren, Jesse (Liz) Wendt, Amzie Wendt, Michael Wendt, Lindsay, Josh, and Cody Jenson, Aubree, Brooke and Connor Kroshus, Dylan, Braydon and Gavin Cummings, Austin Anderson, and Kimberly, Katie, Kayla, Kelsey and Skyler Benke; four great-great-grandchildren, Brendon and Rylie Wendt, Brooklyn Benke and Noah Stuart; as well as many nieces, nephews and good friends.
Proceeding Golda in death is her husband, Al; and her siblings, Ella Sonnenberg, Walter Volk-mann, Reinholdt Volkmann, Elsie Dusterhoft, Carl Volkmann and Martha Sharmer.
