Funeral mass will be held for Florence Jacobson on Friday, February 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Otto Township, rural Perham, MN, with Father Dan Walz officiating.
Funeral mass will be held for Florence Jacobson on Friday, February 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Otto Township, rural Perham, MN, with Father Dan Walz officiating. The hymns will be sung by the St. Lawrence Choir, accompanied by Lacey Guck. Special music will be provided by Jeannie Guck. The pallbearers will be all of Florence’s grandchildren. Florence will be laid to rest in the St. Lawrence Catholic Church Cemetery in Otto Township.
Florence Mary Schanus was born on January 5, 1927, in Rosemount, MN. Her parents were the late Joseph and Minnie (Ruecker) Schanus. In 1940, the Schanus family moved to New York Mills, MN. Florence graduated with the class of 1944 from New York Mills High School. On March 4, 1947, Florence was united in marriage with Richard William Jacobson in Wadena, MN. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Florence and Richard resided in Duluth, MN for a year and then returned to farm in rural New York Mills. On April 9, 2002, Richard passed away in Perham. Florence was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Mission Circle and also a member of the V.F.W. Post #3289 Ladies Auxiliary. She belonged to Blue Bird Sewing Club, Garden Club, Home Makers Group and delivered Meals On Wheels. Florence enjoyed quilting, playing cards, casino trips and volunteering at her church, the Senior Center and the Elders’ Home. On February 23, 2010 Florence passed away at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo, ND, at age 83. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Florence in death were her parents; her husband, Richard; her brothers, Lloyd, Raymond and Walter; also her sister, Dorothy.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Karol Herold of Dalhart, TX; three sons, Gary (Janet) Jacobson of Wadena, David (Deb) Jacobson of Rochester, and Charles Jacobson of New York Mills; 11grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
