Lottie Vivian Kollar, 82, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at the Pioneer Cottages in Fergus Falls.

She was born September 29, 1927, in Columbus, N.D., the daughter of Christian and Anna (Ruud) Runningen. She attended school in Columbus and later Pelican Rapids, Minn., until she had to leave to do the cooking at home for the farm. She was also employed at the restaurant in Pelican Rapids.

On February 9, 1945, she married Ernest P. Kollar in Fergus Falls. Following their marriage, she was a full-time housewife raising their family. After her children were grown, she worked as a clerk for four years at a clothing and shoe store in Perham.

She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary in Casselton, N.D. and Perham. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church.

Lottie was forever busy cooking, baking, cleaning, sewing, quilting, crafting, gardening, and making sure her family always had enough. Alzheimer’s may have taken her away from her family well before they were ready, but when visiting her there’d be a smile or a great “one liner” that assured them that she was still with them all. She taught them that family was to be cherished, and when together they would laugh, cry, and totally enjoy their moments. Lottie loved to sing, listen to Charlie Pride, and dance in the kitchen. She knew the words to an old song, “Remember Me.”

“We will always keep Mom in our hearts and will ‘Remember You.’”

Preceding Lottie in death were her parents; sisters, Selma, Annette, and Clara; brothers, Marvin, Donald, and Oliver; and her grandson, Daryn Paul Schuelke.

Survivors include her husband, Ernest Kollar of Fergus Falls; children, LaVonne (Jerome) Schuelke of Boyd, Minn., Mike (Lori) Kollar of Canby, Minn., Cynde Kollar Schwartzman of San Antonio, Texas, Scott Kollar (Carol Henry) of Bemidji, Minn., and Todd (Cheri) Kollar of San Antonio; 13 grandchildren, J. J., Tami, and Rebecca Schuelke, Bianca Benoit, Adam Nielson, Christy Soular, Chris, Ben, Philip, Jackie and Rachel Kollar, and Jamey and Jason Kollar; five great-grandchildren, Kelsi, Kylie, and Keaton Schuelke, and Jackson and Madeline Benoit; siblings, Clifford Runningen, Pelican Rapids and Christian Runningen Jr., California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 3, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, with Rev. Kate Bruns officiating. Interment will follow at Pelican Valley Cemetery, rural Pelican Rapids.
