Steve Keskitalo 1952-2012

Funeral services will be held for Steve Keskitalo on Friday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m. at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills with Pastor Don Salo and Pastor Andy Tumberg officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Karvonen & Son Funeral Home. Visitation will also resume one hour prior to the service at church.

The hymns will be sung by the congregation and accompanied by Janet Tumberg. Special music will be provided by Bobby Tumberg and Diane Nelmark. Pallbearers will be Kevin Wallgren, Paul Bennett, Steve Bohne, Owen Tumberg, Leon Moss and Mike Patron. Honorary pallbearers are all of Steve’s nephews. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Karvonen & Son Funeral Home. Visitation will also resume one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be made in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills.

Steven Emil Keskitalo was born on July 19, 1952 in Wadena. His parents were the late Emil Evert and Sylvia Mildred (Tumberg) Keskitalo. Steve grew on the family farm in rural New York Mills and graduated from the New York Mills High School with the class of 1970. He was employed with Lund Boats for 35 years, retiring in 2008. Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing lawn games, horseshoes, bowling and spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. On January 6, 2012 Steve passed away peacefully at his home in New York Mills at age 59. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Preceding Steve in death were his parents, Emil and Sylvia; and nephew, Jamie Christenson.

Steve is survived by his two sons, Scott Keskitalo of New York Mills and Seth Keskitalo of New York Mills; eight sisters, Mary (William) Handt of New York Mills, Carol (Bruce) Christenson of Golden, Colo., Joanne (Rick) Cichy of Jenkins; Rosalie (Ronald) Cichy of New York Mills, Judy (Ferlin) Paju of Perham, Linda (Chet) Robben of Grand Lake, Colo., Janeen (Doug) Weller of New York Mills and Geraldine (Jeff) Obenchain of Wadena; three brothers, Ronald (Carolyn) Keskitalo of Fulton, Texas, Randy (Carol) Keskitalo of New York Mills and Paul Keskitalo of Perham; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
