Funeral services were held for Ilmi Karvonen, 93 of Minneapolis, on Oct. 18 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Plymouth, Minn. with Pastor Tom Stoebig officiating. Services were also held on Oct. 19 at the Karvonen & Son Funeral Home in New York Mills with the Reverend Orville Aho officiating. Ilmi was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, New York Mills.

Fern Jacobson, 85, of Perham, formerly of Wolf Lake, Minn., died on Aug. 20 at the Autumn Manor Health Care Facility in Perham. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Wolf Lake. Visitation is at the Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, Minn., from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26 and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Wolf Lake Cemetery.

Nasty weather rains down on Harrier Half Marathon and 5k
The Harrier half-marathon and 5k races started under blue-gray skies with a line of ominous black clouds and lightning heading towards Perham. All of the 5k runners crossed the finish line under dry conditions but by the time professional runner Dan Greeno was the first half-marathoner to finish the awning covering the awards had blown down and straight line winds sent everyone racing to their vehicles to get out of the storm.
